Winter Season

Nominations for Winter Cross Country & Roadwalking Coming Soon

2021/2022 Winter Competition

Athletics West holds Cross Country running and walking on alternate weeks around various Perth and Country locations. Some events are run by Athletics West and some by some of the various Centres around Perth.

Timetables are issued for each event on the athletics West website so you know when your child will be running. Be there 20 minutes before start time. Events are held on Saturday afternoons from 12.30 to approximately 4.30pm.

Age Groups U7 to U9 can wear their club singlets but the remainder wear Southern Districts tops. They must have on their age Group/registration number.  Singlets will be available at each cross country for purchase if you don’t have one or your child has grown.

There is a state championship for both the walks and running held at the end of the season.

Last year distances for running.

U 7-U10          1k

U11-U14        2km

U15-U17        3km (these may change this year)

Registration Process 2022.

Athletes who competed in the summer season; registration is in two parts this year:

  1. There is no cost to enter as you are covered by your summer registration paid.
  2. Registration for the Winter Season. You need to pre register your child for the Winter series. This is done via your Results HQ log in. You hopefully have received an email sending you to this address but it’s the same as you used through the summer. Once you are in, you go to the nominations tab and follow (its at the bottom) to the winter registration. There is no cost to register but you have to go through the payment process for $nil.
  3. You also need to pre nominate for each event you wish to participate in (as was the case last year) Event registrations typically close on the Thursday night prior to allow time for start lists. The registration is on the Athletics West site via a portal from the event. Families with multiple children have to register 1 athlete at a time.

New athletes (not previously registered for the 2021/2022 season)

  1. Separate registration just for the Winter season is available. Registration is via Timing Solutions/Results HQ
  2. All athlete enquiries need to go via a club.  Please see the clubs page for information on the most suitable club for you.

Training

Winter training will be held by Graham (Winter Officer) on Tuesdays at Piney Lakes Reserve (Meet at the carpark on east side) 4:45pm start.

Training will commence May 3.

More on Timing chips (RFIDs)

Each athlete must have a RFID chip to be worn on their shoe or ankle during their race. This is to streamline timing and finish line procedures. Chips can easily be attached to the athlete’s shoe lace or alternatively on a piece of elastic or a strap around the ankle. Each chip has a unique number which is recorded against the athlete’s name and is not transferable. Only chips issued by LAWA for the Winter competition can be used.   LAWA staff / officials will not be able to replace lost chips on the day of competition. The Southern Districts Winter Officer can allocate a replacement chip however this has to be done on the Thursday evening before the week they wish to compete.

Still have you timing chip? If you still have your timing chip from last season, you can reuse it. When you nominate, select the “BYO Tag” option.

Lost your timing chip from last year? Timing chips are $5- and can be paid for online when you nominate.

Uniforms

Under 7’s to 9’s may wear their club uniform.  Under 10’s to 17’s must be in Centre uniform.

Age tags, registration numbers and logos must be worn as per the summer season.

SDLAC singlets will be available for purchase from Graham (Winter and Uniform Manager) for $35.

Navy blue shorts to be worn.
